Project RALLY Food Drive

In the State of Kansas, 1 in 5 Children Struggle with Hunger

More than 41 million Americans, including 1 in 6 children, struggle with food insecurity each day. Hunger exists in every state, county, and congressional district in the United States. Food banks across the United States and Canada rely on the donations they receive from food drives to help keep their shelves stocked.

We seek to raise awareness about hunger and inspire others to take action. We are collaborating with entities that has collected nearly 13 million pounds of food thanks, in large part, to ordinary people like you who recognized the urgency of the problem and decided to take action. We need your support to continue providing meals for our neighbors in Kansas City!

Food banks, shelters, and soup kitchens may seem like the answer to hunger in America. They are, however, a short-term and inadequate response. “Hunger” is best understood as a symptom of the larger issues of poverty and inequality. It needs to be addressed through a combination of economic and political solutions.

22.5% of African American households and 18.5% of Hispanic households are food insecure, both of which are higher than the national average of 12.3%

So while we must continue to donate our food and volunteer, we must also advocate for the policies that will address the root causes of hunger, like supporting higher minimum wages so that workers are fairly compensated for their labor. It also means increasing access to fresh and nutritious food. Finally, we must acknowledge that hunger disproportionately affects African Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans and take steps to right the historical wrongs that have trapped a large percentage of these groups in poverty for generations.
